Who is responsible for this website

Stop Smart Glasses is an independent campaign, not a company, charity or CIC. It was created and is run by Liz Hunter, the campaign's founder. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with Meta or Ray-Ban.

For UK data protection purposes, the "controller" — the person who decides why and how any data is processed — is Liz Hunter, as an individual operating this campaign. See "Contact us" below for how to reach us about privacy.

The location finder

The homepage lets you type in a UK postcode or an Ireland town/city name to find a nearby retailer we've verified sells camera-equipped smart glasses, so you can ask them to stop.

Entering a postcode or town is entirely optional. It is not a legal or contractual requirement, nothing else on this site depends on it, no page is withheld if you skip it, and every other part of the campaign works normally whether or not you ever use the finder.

The postcode or town/city you enter is sent to our Cloudflare-hosted search service in order to return nearby retailer results. That search is not stored by our application anywhere — not in our database (Cloudflare D1), not in a cookie, not in localStorage, and not in any analytics tool. The paragraphs below explain exactly what does happen to it, including at the infrastructure level, so that claim is precise rather than a slogan.

What our own application code does

• UK postcode: sent to our Cloudflare Worker, which asks postcodes.io — a free, publicly available UK postcode-lookup service — for that postcode's approximate coordinates. Only the postcode text is sent to postcodes.io; your IP address and nothing else about you is passed to it. This request happens server-to-server, not from your browser.
• Ireland town/city: matched against a small fixed list of Irish town names held directly in our own server code. postcodes.io is not used for Ireland at all — there is no external lookup call for an Ireland search.
• Either way, the resulting coordinates are used once, to check our own retailer database for anything within 10, 25 or 50 miles, and the matching results are sent back to your browser. Our application code never writes the postcode/town you searched, or the results, to D1, to a log file, or anywhere else persistent. We checked this directly in the code that handles searches: it only ever reads data to answer your search, and never performs a write or save of the search text at any point.

What Cloudflare necessarily processes, as our infrastructure provider

The finder currently places your postcode or town/city in the request's URL as a query parameter (for example, `.../api/stockists?postcode=...`) — it is not hidden in a request body. Cloudflare, as the network that receives, routes and secures this request, necessarily processes the full request URL (postcode included) and your IP address as a normal part of handling any HTTP request — this happens regardless of any additional analytics or logging product being switched on, and is inherent to how any hosting/CDN provider operates. This is Cloudflare's infrastructure-level processing, separate from and not visible to our own application.

Workers Observability (Cloudflare's optional logging product for this specific Worker) is confirmed switched off for the Worker that powers this search, as verified directly in our Cloudflare account on 22 August 2026. In plain terms: we have checked, and this particular logging feature is not capturing extra application-level records of these requests. This is a setting we control and could change in future, in which case we'll update this notice.

Analytics, advertising and third-party tracking

As of the date of this notice, we have audited the site's code directly and found no Google Analytics, Meta/Facebook Pixel, advertising pixel, or any other first- or third-party analytics or behavioural-tracking tool anywhere on this website.

We do not currently use website analytics or track whether visitors click campaign action links (for example, a "message this retailer" button or the petition link). We do not build visitor profiles or track individual behaviour across visits or pages.

We do not carry out automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affects you.

Cookies and similar technologies

This website does not set any cookies, and does not use localStorage, sessionStorage or any other on-device storage to identify or remember you. We checked directly and there are none — so we haven't added a cookie banner, because showing one when there's nothing to consent to would be misleading, not reassuring.

Why we process any data at all

The only processing of information you actively provide to this website is returning nearby retailer results when you use the location finder. We don't use that information for marketing, profiling or analytics.

Our lawful basis

Where UK data protection law requires us to identify a lawful basis, we rely on legitimate interests, specifically:

• Location finder: letting a visitor who has directly and voluntarily asked to find a nearby verified retailer actually get an answer to that request — a core, directly-requested feature of this site.
• Cloudflare's infrastructure-level processing: keeping the website online, fast and secure against attacks.

Who else sees any data, and why

• Cloudflare — our hosting, security and search-API provider. Processes IP addresses and full request URLs (including any postcode/town in a finder search) at an infrastructure level, as described above.
• postcodes.io — receives only the UK postcode text you search for (never your IP address, never anything else about you), purely to convert it to coordinates. Not used for Ireland searches at all.

We do not sell, rent, or otherwise share any data with anyone for advertising or marketing purposes.

International processing

Cloudflare operates global infrastructure, which may process requests outside the UK or EEA as part of its ordinary operation. Cloudflare publishes its own data-transfer safeguards (for example, Standard Contractual Clauses) — see its privacy documentation for specifics. We have not independently audited exactly which country any individual request is routed through.

We have not confirmed exactly where postcodes.io's own infrastructure is located. If this matters to you, we'd recommend checking with that service directly.

How long anything is kept

Location searches: your postcode or town/city search is not retained by our application at all — it is used for the moment it takes to answer your search and then discarded. Nothing is written to D1, a cookie, localStorage, or any log our application controls.

Our retailer database (addresses and verification evidence for sellers we've identified) is kept and updated on an ongoing basis as a public-interest resource — that's information about businesses, not visitors, and is covered by our Terms rather than this notice.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (and, for Irish visitors, equivalent Irish/EU law), you have the right to:

• ask what personal data we hold about you;
• ask us to correct inaccurate data;
• ask us to delete data we hold about you;
• object to how we process data about you (see the separate section below);
• ask us to restrict processing in certain circumstances.

Data portability does not apply here, because that right only arises where processing is based on consent or on a contract, and ours is based on legitimate interests.

In practice: we do not create visitor profiles, and we do not store the postcode or town/city you enter into the finder in our campaign database. We'll still respond properly to any request we receive.

Your right to object

Because we rely on legitimate interests rather than consent, you have a specific right to object to that processing at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation.

Write to privacy@stopsmartglasses.com telling us why, and we will stop unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, rights and freedoms, or unless we need the data to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim.

We do not carry out any direct marketing. If we ever did, you would be able to object to it at any time, for any reason or none, and we would have to stop immediately.

If you're in the UK, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

If you're in Ireland, you have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission (DPC): dataprotection.ie.
